Overview of the GRI Program

What is GRI?

The GRI (Graduate REALTOR® Institute) designation is the most recognized and respected professional designation available to real estate professional nationwide. REALTORS®who have earned the GRI designation receive in-depth training in legal issues, regulatory  issues, technology, professional standards and the sales process.


Why earn the designation?

NAR statistics show that REALTORS® with a GRI designation earn more than $22,000 annually than whose without a designation and report an increase in referrals in the first year after obtaining their designation. Along with an increased level of skill and professionalisms, GRI designees build strong connections with their classmates that turn into rewarding business and personal connections.

How does the process work?

Submit the GRI application below along with a one-time $50 application fee. Take 90 hours from the benchmarks within five years of completing the first course. Submit the GRI Completion Form. The GRI professional designation is acquired upon approval by The Graduate REALTOR® Institute Council of Advisors. Graduates receive a certificate and are placed in the national GRI designation database.

FAQs

I already have 45 credits towards my GRI. What do I need to do to finish?
The GRI Designation requires you to earn 90 credit hours so you would need to complete 45 more credit hours that are approved for credit by the Indiana GRI program and cover the specific benchmarks.

I just took my broker transition course. Does this course count for GRI credit?
Yes, if you took the 24-hour broker transition course from RECP it will count for 22 GRI credits. You must already be a GRI candidate or apply as a new candidate for the credit to cross.

I got my e-Pro designation last year. Does that count towards the 90 credits needed for my GRI?
The e-Pro designation will cross for 7 hours of GRI credit. The course must have been completed since January 1, 2012 to count for credit.

I took a CRS course in 2010. Does that count towards the 90 credits needed for my GRI?
Some CRS courses will count for GRI credit, including CRS 111 which counts for 7 hours of GRI credit. The course must have been completed since January 1, 2012 to count for credit.

Can I earn my GRI designation by taking all online classes?
While there are many course opportunities available online, it’s most likely you will have to take some live courses to complete the 90 credit hours. Visit the GRI portal for available online courses.

How much will it cost for me to earn my GRI designation?
The cost will vary depending on the types of courses taken. An average cost is $450 for every 30 hours of GRI credit.
