It’s a license renewal year for Indiana real estate brokers. The deadline is June 30, 2020. The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA) tells us they will open the renewal process in March with an email to all licensees. We are writing to prepare you for the process and to encourage you to renew your license as early as possible. Real estate schools and the IPLA get busier and busier as the deadline approaches. Don’t risk your license and livelihood by waiting.

First thing’s first – make sure the IPLA has a valid, unique email address for you. This way you get direct notice of when the renewal process opens and other important news from the state agency that oversees your license.
Do not click yes if you are not ready. The license renewal process will ask if you completed the required continuing education (CE). It’s tempting to click yes and plan to complete CE later, marking one thing off your long to-do list. Especially now that you do not submit certificates of completion during the renewal process. However, if you click yes and it’s discovered through an audit that you completed CE afterward, you will receive a fine.
Give the license renewal process your full attention. Last time, we know of some members who erroneously clicked no to the U.S. citizenship question. They spent a lot of time and trouble proving their citizenship and getting it corrected in IPLA records.
Most, but not all, Indiana real estate brokers must complete 12 hours of CE during each of the three years – July 1 to June 30 – of the license renewal cycle. The exception is for newly licensed brokers, which we discuss in #5. If you need CE, IAR’s school, the Real Estate Certification Program (RECP), is ready to help with live and online courses. Call 1-800-742-4067 or email today.

Newly licensed brokers must complete a 30-hour post-licensing course within two years of their license issue date. This course replaces the CE requirement during the first two years of licensure. The following chart shows the deadline for completion of the post-licensing course and the year the CE requirement begins.

If you need to complete a post-licensing course, RECP is ready to help. Call 1-800-742-4067 or email today.
